About Jay Leonard
Jay Leonard, owner of Preferred Auto in Fort Wayne, Indiana, is only one of many East Allen County Schools alumni who has accomplished the dreams he had as a student. When he was a high school student at New Haven High School, Jay looked up to other students’ and their examples of leadership.
Through his time at New Haven High School, Jay learned that the people you surround yourself with are just as important as the work you do. He’s carried that idea into his work as owner of Preferred Auto.
“I have been in the automotive business for 30 years. I first started in sales in 1984, and then after learning sales/finance/service at the dealership, I ventured out on my own. Preferred Automotive Group was opened in the summer of 1989. Since then, we have grown to six locations in Northeast Indiana. We currently have six sales offices, two service centers and three dealer finance companies. We specialize in all makes and models of used vehicles.
I have been happily married to my wife, Ann, for the past 23 years. We have two children; our oldest is Alexandria and she is graduating from Purdue University this year and our second child is our son, Jacob. He is currently a junior at Bishop Dwenger HS. My hobbies are golf and fishing. My main passion is my family.” –Preferred Auto
